June is NATIONAL DAIRY MONTH

One glass of no-fat milk contains approximately 90 calories, 12 grams of carbohydrates, 8 grams of protein with 0 grams of fat.

Only three servings of dairy products are needed per day.  A serving equals one cup of no- fat / 1% fat milk, 8 oz yogurt or 1.5 oz. cheese.  These dairy products also provide  nine essential nutrients that children need every day, including calcium, protein, potassium, phosphorus, vitamins A, D and B-12, riboflavin and niacin.

There are simple ways to include more dairy products in your diet. See  RECIPES for more ideas.

Studies show dairy food, when consumed as part of a healthy diet, improve overall diet quality and may help the risk of osteoporosis, hypertension, obesity, kidney stones and colon cancer.  By age 20, the average young person has acquired about 98 percent of his/her skeletal mass.  Building strong bones during childhood and adolescence can be the best defense against developing osteoporosis later in life.
